What is Rezum?

Rezum is an FDA approved, transurethral (insertion of device into the urethra) treatment for an enlarged prostate, or BPH (Benign Prostate Hyperplasia). Rezum is a minimally invasive procedure that utilizes RF generated thermal therapy, in the form ofwater vapor to shrink the enlarged prostate tissue and reduce the symptoms of BPH, such as frequent urination or weak stream, without medication or surgery. At Urology Care of Central New Jersey, Rezum is done in an outpatient setting requiring no cutting, heating or removal of prostate tissue which is of benefit to our patients who prefer to undergo minimal procedures. Rezum proves to be a safe and effective treatment in relieving symptoms of BPH.

How is the Rezum procedure performed at the Urology Care of Central New Jersey?

At the Urology Care of Central New Jersey, Rezum is an in-office procedure carried out by our highly skilled team of urologists. Rezum requires no general anesthesia but pain-sensitive patients maybe scheduled for light sedation. The urologist utilizes a Rezum transurethral handled device which is inserted into the patient’s urethra. The Rezum device delivers water vapor thermal energy into the enlarged prostate tissue. The enlarged prostate lobes shrink when the Rezum device generates RF thermal steam. Antibiotics maybe prescribed to avoid occurrence of any infections after undergoing the Rezum procedure and dependent on patient condition, we provide comprehensive pain management care to all patients.

Why choose to undergo the Rezum procedure?

At the Urology Care of Central New Jersey, we are highly committed in the well-being of our patients and since major surgeries can cause potential surgical side effects and complications, we make it a priority to offer our patients treatment options that are minimally invasive and allow them to regain quality of life with minimal downtime. Rezum can require patients to stop taking their medications for BPH without having to undergo major surgery and allows them to preserve their sexual and urinary functions. Since all patient conditions and results vary from patient to patient, urologists at our Urology practice prioritize in discussing the potential benefits and drawbacks with our patients before undergoing any medical procedures.
